After meeting in the national semifinals last season, Oregon Tech and College of Idaho topped the Cascade Conference men's basketball preseason poll and Southern Oregon was third in a vote by the coaches that was released Wednesday by the league office.
Oregon Tech – which finished its season in the NAIA Division II national championship game after winning the CCC regular-season title – was tabbed the favorite with eight first-place votes and all of its regular rotation players back, including two-time CCC Player of the Year Mitchell Fink. C of I will be following up on a 31-6 campaign in which it finished a game back of OIT in the conference standings and was ultimately eliminated by the Owls.
The Raiders return 13 players, including four regular starters, from a team that went 21-11. A midseason slide dropped them to 9-9 in conference play, but they rebounded to make a postseason run to the CCC Tournament championship game, where they were eliminated at C of I.
The group back includes All-CCC honorable mention pick
Jordan Hunt, a 6-foot-9 senior post who averaged 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds.
Teron Bradford (10.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists) returns after breaking into the starting lineup as a freshman, and senior forward
Tate Hoffman (10.2 points, 5.7 rebounds) has averaged double figures the last two seasons.
Corban was fourth, Eastern Oregon fifth and Warner Pacific sixth in the poll.
The preseason Top 25 poll is scheduled to be released on Oct. 23.
SOU's season opens at the Montana Tech Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 1 and 2.
