Senior forward
Tate Hoffman, in the middle of an all-star season for the Southern Oregon men's basketball team, has been selected to the NAIA Academic All-District 4 team as nominated and selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The annual honor is designed to recognize the top student-athletes in the country for a combination of their academic and athletic accomplishments. A total of 27 men's basketball players in the NAIA were recognized, and Hoffman was joined on the District 4 team by College of Idaho's Nate Bruneel, Eastern Oregon's Max McCullough, Northwest (Wash.)'s Ryan Ricks, Menlo (Calif.)'s Jeremiah Testa and Carroll (Mont.)'t Dane Warp.
Hoffman, a business administration major from West Linn, carries a 3.54 cumulative GPA and has earned Academic All-Cascade Conference and Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete plaudits during his four seasons at SOU. He's also one of the central reasons the Raiders are ranked No. 7 at the NAIA Division II level, standing at 20-6 overall and 14-4 in the CCC.
Among conference players in CCC action, Hoffman is the sixth-leading scorer at 18.2 points per game and the seventh-leading rebounder at 7.4 per game. He also ranks fifth in field-goal percentage (50.9) and 11th in blocked shots (0.9), and has recorded six double-doubles while scoring 20-plus on nine occasions.
Hoffman has been a steady contributor throughout his career: On SOU's career lists, he sits at No. 13 in points (1,403) and No. 9 in 3-pointers made (144).
He'll automatically move forward as nominee for the Academic All-America team, which will be announced in March.
Hoffman and the Raiders will wrap the regular season at Lithia Motors Pavilion this weekend, playing Friday against Multnomah and Saturday against Warner Pacific. At 7 p.m. Tuesday, they'll start the CCC Tournament at home with a quarterfinal game against an opponent to be determined.
