Raiders keep rolling with 2-0 defeat of Corban

ASHLAND – Corban couldn't slow down the Southern Oregon women's soccer team as the Raiders stayed in the Cascade Conference championship hunt with a 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon at Raider Stadium, their seventh in eight games.

Malaika Quigley assisted Baylee Touey's go-ahead goal in the 14th minute, and Gabbie Johnson found Natalie Paul in the 73rd of the team's home finale.

The Raiders (10-4-1 overall, 8-2 CCC) hit the eight-win mark in conference play for the third time in team history against a Warriors (11-4, 7-4) squad that was attempting to force a tie with them in the standings. Instead, SOU remains tied in second place with College of Idaho and three points behind first-place Oregon Tech heading into next weekend's final regular season contests at Warner Pacific and Multnomah.

The shutout, secured thanks to Jessie Selby's six saves and heady play on the back line, was the Raiders' third in a row. They've yielded just three goals in their last seven games.

Just as she did in Friday's 3-0 defeat of Bushnell, Quigley assisted the go-ahead goal – sending a long pass from beyond midfield to find Touey streaking down the right sideline and outpacing a couple of defenders.

Quigley has totaled two goals and three assists in SOU's last five games, and she and Touey have both recorded nine points in CCC play to lead the Raiders.

The connection between Johnson and Paul – who both tallied against Bushnell – occurred as Johnson got loose on a breakaway and crossed from the left side just as she hit the end line to find Paul right in front of the goal.

Corban outshot the Raiders 17-4 but Selby handled the Warriors' limited quality looks. The shutout was SOU's ninth overall.
