WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
SPOKANE, Wash. – The Southern Oregon wrestling teams produced eight men's placers and five women's placers Sunday at the Spokane Open, and 116-pound women's champion
Glory Konecny was the headliner.
Konecny went 4-0 with two falls and a technical fall – pinning Simon Fraser's Ivy Threatful in the first round of the championship match – while
Karly Scott (101 pounds) placed second and
Kira Satnick (130) third for the Raider women, who had a small contingent at the tournament with most of the team attending the Missouri Valley Open earlier in the weekend.
Kyara Tagami (123) took fourth and
Ramona Jimenez (123) was fifth.
The Raider men were represented by 23 individuals and placed seventh in the team standings, which were topped by Clackamas C.C. (175 points) and Montana State-Northern (138.5).
SOU was led by six fourth-place finishers:
Evan Potter (133 pounds) and
Lorenzo Vasquez (133) – who double-forfeited the third-place match at 133 –
Anthony Perez (141),
JJ Talavera (157),
Dylan Straley (165) and
Noah Talavera (174).
Nick Peterson (141) and
Ayden Wolgamott (174) both placed fifth.
Noah Talavera accounted for a team-high 17 ½ points at 174. He reached the quarterfinals with back-to-back pins to start the tourney and later won three consolation matches with a pin and a major decision. Though he advanced to the third-place match, it went down as a no-contest.
JJ Talavera also took a no-contest in his third-place match after recording two pins and a major decision while staying alive through six consolation rounds and accumulating 17 points. Straley scored 16 ½ points by going 3-2 with two pins.
The Raider men will be back in action with a dual at MSU-Northern on Dec. 2. The women will next appear in Great Falls, Mont., at the Battle of the Rockies on Dec. 3.
