ASHLAND – Southern Oregon hits the halfway point of Cascade Conference play this week as last-place Providence (Mont.) comes to town for a four-game series. First pitches of the doubleheaders are set for 2 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday at University Field.
After taking three of four from No. 5 Oregon Tech last week, the top-ranked Raiders stand at 26-2 overall and 11-1 in the CCC. They're a game behind first-place College of Idaho (22-8, 12-0), though the Yotes have yet to play a team with a winning conference record and have to visit the Raiders in two weeks. Providence (2-14, 2-10), meanwhile, has lost six straight.
SHORT HOPS:
- The Raiders have won 17 of their last 18 CCC series and eight consecutive home series. Since their last home series loss, which occurred in 2018, they've gone 37-1 at University Field.
- Three major streaks came to an end last week in Klamath Falls. The Raiders' winning streak was halted at 19, but not before they broke the old team record of 17 straight wins that was set in 2004. Lauren Quirke's streak of consecutive innings pitched without allowing an earned run ended at 41, breaking Victoria Mackey's SOU record of 37. And Allie Stines' hitting streak ended at 22 games, one short of Kelsey Randall's program high mark.
- Katrina Winterburn went 6-for-10 in three CCC games at OIT, hitting a home run and a double, driving in three runs and scoring three more. The left fielder raised her batting average to .347.
- Shortstop Rylan Austin is batting 12-for-23 with runners in scoring position, giving her a team-high average of .522 in those situations.
- CCC Gold Glove-winner Olivia Mackey has played 112 consecutive games without committing an error in right field.
- Hannah Shimek leads the NAIA in triples with seven, and Allie Stines tops the doubles leaderboard with 19. Stines is also second among all CCC players in triples with five, and her 80 total bases lead the conference.
- Quirke owns the CCC's top batting average at .511, and is now batting .470 in her SOU career. The SOU single-season record, owned by Meghan McLaughlin, is .463, though Quirke hit .488 last year in a shortened season. In 12 conference games, she's batting .559 (19-for-34) with 11 runs and 10 RBIs.
- Shimek is seven RBIs away from reaching Harlee Donovan's SOU career record of 140, and Quirke is lingering close behind with 120. Riley Donovan's 2021 RBI total of 33 is No. 2 on the CCC leaderboard.
- The Raiders have out-hit their opponents in 25 of 28 games. They've outscored them 93-12 combined in first and second innings.
- SOU's team on-base percentage is .439. The team record, established is 2019, is .415.
- SOU's team ERA is 1.91, headed by Gabby Sandoval's 1.37 mark. Sandoval is now 14-0 and has won 28 consecutive decisions. With 104 career victories, she's two away from breaking into the top-5 in NAIA history.
