Wright, Eagles sink Raiders 1-0

ASHLAND – Northwest (Wash.) all-star Callie Wright's 20th career goal was the difference in a 1-0 Cascade Conference victory over Southern Oregon on Saturday afternoon at Raider Stadium.

Wright broke the deadlock in the 50th minute thanks to some pretty work from Claire Jo Diede, who started with the ball near midfield and split the defense before finding Wright. Wright took the pass just wide of the left post and snuck it inside the right on a couple bounces.

The Eagles improved to 2-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the CCC. The Raiders, who had shut out four of their first six opponents and routed Evergreen (Wash.) 6-0 on Friday, fell to 3-3-1 and 1-1.

NU keeper Kierstin Patefield kept them off the board with three saves, all of rockets off the right foot of Baylee Touey.

SOU keeper Jessie Selby made six saves, including three against Wright before the winner got through.

The Raiders will be home again at 1:30 p.m. next Friday to face No. 21-ranked Oregon Tech.
