ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon men's wrestling team was pin-happy against Simpson (Calif.) before being stymied by 18th-ranked Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) in a Cascade Conference doubleheader Friday night at Riehm Arena.

The Raiders won by fall five times against the Redhawks, taking all but one match in their 49-6 triumph. That momentum carried through their first two matches against ERAU, but it was all Eagles the rest of the way as they lost 29-12. The contests brought SOU's record to 4-5.

After 125-pounder Pancho Barrera started the Simpson dual with a major decision, the next four Raiders in the lineup won by fall: Justin Coon (133), Anthony Perez (141), Travis Thorpe (149) and Aaron Gandara (157), each finishing their opponents in the first round.

Fabian Miranda-Walls added the final pin at 184. Ayden Wolgamott (174) was on the right side of a decision. Andres Ramirez (165) and John White (197) both received forfeit victories before Jacob Vincent scored Simpson's only points in the heavyweight bout.

Barrera, the No. 14-ranked 125-pounder in the NAIA, capped his successful evening with a second-round pin of Josh Nira to open the second dual. His two victories made him 15-6.

SOU's wins leader, Evan Potter, collected his 20th of the season in the 133 matchup. Ranked 15th in the NAIA, Potter defeated 17th-ranked Jacob Seto in an 8-6 sudden victory, scoring a takedown one minute into their extra session.

The Eagles quickly claimed the lead with back-to-back wins by fall by 17th-ranked Jayce Cuhna (141) and Berit Sturgeon (149). Keller Rock, ranked No. 20, added more bonus points with a technical fall at 174. The Eagles won their four decisions by 10 points combined.

SOU heavyweight Jacob Bernstein ended the dual on a high note with a 5-2 decision over Garrette Branson.

The Raiders' Saturday duals were canceled earlier this week. They'll be at the Missouri Valley Open next Friday and Saturday.
