ASHLAND – Southern Oregon University's
Molly Guerra and
Piper Love were voted Cascade Conference WVT Laboratory Athletes of the Week following huge performances on the road last weekend.
Guerra, a junior from Grants Pass, collected her second consecutive CCC Field Athlete of the Week award after breaking SOU's 22-year-old women's discus record at University of Oregon's Hayward Premiere. Guerra threw 155 feet 1 inch, claiming the top spot on the NAIA performance list by a full three feet. She placed fourth of 16 in the NCAA Division I-heavy competition.
Piper, a freshman from Corvallis, was the CCC Softball Player of the Week, going 8-for-14 with three home runs to help the Raiders split a four-game series at Northwest (Wash.). She hit two home runs on Day 2 – her fourth and fifth of the season – as the Raiders swept the doubleheader, improving to 29-9 overall.
The Raiders play Wednesday at top-ranked Oregon Tech and Friday and Saturday at home against Warner Pacific. SOU's track and field team will return to Eugene to compete in Saturday's Lane Invitational.
