GULF SHORES, Ala.Abi Stevens became an All-American in the heptathlon and the Southern Oregon women's 4x400-meter relay team rode a school record into the finals during Day 2 of the NAIA Outdoor Championships on Thursday at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.

Stevens, a freshman from West Allis, Wis., placed seventh overall, delivering SOU's first top-eight finish in the women's hepathlon since 1995. After entering the day in fourth place, she wound up with 4,679 points – six more than her previous best and No. 3 on the Raiders' all-time performance list – after running the 800-meter finale in 2 minutes 26.49 seconds for 738 points. She'll go for another All-America accolade in Friday's high jump as the No. 2 seed.

Jenna Hodges finished 13th in the heptathlon with 4,257 points, 86 higher than her qualifying score. She finished strong, posting the fifth-best javelin throw, eighth-best long jump and ninth-best 800 time in the field.

The Raiders' 4x400 team of Camille Lawrence, Aayzia Dumas, Baylee Touey and Erin Gibson ran the prelims in 3:45.81, qualifying comfortably for the final and breaking the previous SOU record, established in 2018, by almost four seconds. They had the sixth-fastest trial time in the 17-team field, finishing third in their heat, and Indiana Tech posted the top trial time in 3:43.30.

For the first time in team history, the Raider women will be represented in both the 4x100 and 4x400 finals Friday, having already clinched All-America status in both.

In the women's 100 trials, Lindsey Bonney outperformed her seed but missed the final in 10th place with a time of 11.99 seconds – six-hundredths of a second behind the final qualifier. She'll race Friday in the 4x100.

The 4x800 team – comprising Erin Gibson, Lauren Forster, Maya Smith and Sarah Mauk – was 17th of 18 teams in the trials with a time of 9:35.78 after being rained out on Wednesday.

In the women's 10K, another race rescheduled from Wednesday, Kayla Clayton placed 18th of 26 by clocking in at 38:32.69. Haylee Brodahl was in 19th place with 400 meters to go before dropping out.

The Raiders will be active in five events Friday, starting with Molly Guerra in the discus and Adam O'Brien in the pole vault at 11 a.m. Pacific Time.
