ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The two highest vaulters in Southern Oregon history competed together for the final time on Day 1 of the NAIA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday morning at the Karl Straus Track.
Katherine Martinez, SOU's program record holder, placed 10th in pole vault, clearing 12 feet 4.75 inches (3.78m). Had the senior cleared her last bar with one less miss, she would've shared an eighth-place All-American finish with two others.
Sydney Perkins finished 11th, getting over 12 feet 0.75 inches (3.68m) in her first NAIA National Championship. Her mark tied her third-best performance ever and was three inches higher than her 2025 season's best.
Due to weather delays, Alyssa Johnson's and Mason Weisgerber's 10,000-meter races were rescheduled to Thursday afternoon. The women's race will start at 3:45 p.m. and the men's will start at 4:35 p.m.
Lilly Pickett will also compete in the 400-meter prelims at 1 p.m.
