Alexander, Forster earn runner-up status at Humboldt

McKINLEYVILLE, Calif. Zackary Alexander and Lauren Forster both turned in runner-up performances, and the Southern Oregon women's cross country team scored a team win Saturday morning at Cal Poly Humboldt's Jim Hunt Invitational.

The meet comprised SOU, Humboldt and Willamette, and the Raiders placed all five of their scorers among the top-seven in the 6,000-meter women's race at Beau Pre Golf Club. Forster, a sophomore from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, completed the course in 22 minutes 43 seconds, 18 seconds behind Humboldt's Rosa Granados.

The next four Raiders in – Kayla Clayton (23:23), Haylee Brodahl (23:28), Emma Baeth (23:29) and Sydnee Kizziar (23:40) – occupied the fourth-through-seventh spots in the 27-person field. Kizziar, a two-time all-conference runner, was making her season debut.

Maya Smith (24:51) checked in at 11th and Gracie Freudenthal (26:26) was 21st.

On the 36-person men's side, Alexander ran 8K in 25:42 and third-place Jensen Salvatori finished in 25:45. Isaac Fernandez (26:04) claimed fifth place, while Luke Lucchesi (27:12) was 18th, Asher Tatsumi (27:24) 20th and Ben Jordan (27:49) 23rd.

Humbolt scored 26 points to the Raiders' 35. The Lumberjacks' winner, Nick Brichta, edged Alexander by 12 seconds.

The Raiders will be off until Oct. 15, when they travel to Estacada for the Lewis & Clark Invite.
