Raiders on the Road: Oct. 11-13

10/10/2024 5:05:00 PM

RAIDER WOMEN'S SOCCER (6-4, 3-3-0 CCC)
1 p.m. Friday – at Rocky Mountain (3-3-1, 1-2-1) | Stream | Stats
Headlines:
Losses of 1-0 to Eastern Oregon and 3-1 to No. 11-ranked College of Idaho stung SOU last week at Raider Stadium. The assignment doesn't get any easier on the road, where the Raiders take on a Rocky Mountain (Mont.) team whose 1-2-1 Cascade Conference record is as deceptive as it gets. Over the last few weeks, the Bears have defeated EOU, drawn with second-place Carroll (Mont.) and battled C of I in a 2-1 loss that was as close as any conference team has gotten against the Yotes in the last couple years. The Raiders sit at No. 6 on the CCC table and have fared better on the road this year than at home. Going back to 2022, they're unbeaten in five straight and 12 of their last 13 conference games away from Ashland.

No. 24 RAIDER MEN'S SOCCER (8-2-1, 5-0-1 CCC)
3:30 p.m. Friday – at Rocky Mountain (4-4-0, 3-3-0) | Stream | Stats
1 p.m. Sunday – at Walla Walla (1-4-0, 1-4-0) | StreamStats
Headlines:
The Raiders held onto their No. 24 spot in this week's NAIA Top 25 poll, remaining the Cascade Conference's only ranked team, though Carroll (Mont.) is receiving votes at No. 36 overall. The Saints, who visit SOU on Oct. 18, are currently two points ahead of the Raiders in the standings at 6-0 in circuit play. To keep pace, the Raiders have to first defeat a Rocky Mountain team that got a bonus win on Thursday when Providence (Mont.) forfeited the teams' Sept. 20 matchup. The Battlin' Bears have lost their last four meetings against SOU but recently scored an impressive 4-3 win over College of Idaho. Sunday's opponent, Walla Walla (Wash.), has never gotten a result against SOU in seven all-time matchups. Raider keeper Casey Ruvolo is the reigning NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, and Kaito Nakayama has recorded a point in seven of the team's eight wins – including an 87th-minute PK in last Saturday's 1-0 win over College of Idaho. Nakayama leads the CCC in assists (6) and Mustafa Daggig is No. 2 in goals (8).

No. 5 RAIDER VOLLEYBALL (17-1, 11-1 CCC)
6 p.m. Friday – at No. 3 Eastern Oregon (18-1, 10-1) | Stream | Stats
6 p.m. Saturday – at College of Idaho (10-9, 6-5) | Stream | Stats
Headlines:
The Raiders have needed to go through La Grande to win their last two Cascade Conference titles, prevailing in five sets at EOU in both 2018 and '19. Their chances of claiming another trophy could depend on doing it again as they, EOU and Corban enter the weekend tied in the loss column with one apiece. The Raiders won this year's first matchup, 3-1 on Sept. 7 in Ashland, despite being without the services of Megan Perry, the CCC's top attacker in terms of efficiency. They did so behind 18 kills and 14 digs from Marin Mackey and eight blocks from Sadie Byrd. The Mountaineers have won nine straight since. They boast the CCC's top opponents' attacking average (.105), while SOU is No. 1 on the attack (.260). Saturday's opponent, College of Idaho, has yet to lose at home in conference play, but the Raiders took them down 3-1 in Ashland.

RAIDER MEN'S & No. 9 WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Headlines:
The Raiders have been off the last two weekends and now have just two more regular-season races to prepare for the Nov. 8 Cascade Conference Championships. They'll be part of a large field with teams from every level in Seattle, running at Lower Woodland Park for the first time. They were stellar in their most recent outing at Humboldt's Jim Hunt Invitational, where both the men and women took second place behind runner-up finishes from Mason Weisgerber and Cammeo Ramirez. The SOU women have since moved up to No. 9 in the NAIA Top 25. The men are receiving votes at No. 41 overall.
