MEET CENTRAL

KLAMATH FALLS Carson Le Bel became Southern Oregon's third different men's pole vault champion in the last six years during the first session of the Cascade Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank on Friday at Moehl Stadium.

Five Raiders joined Le Bel on the All-CCC podium, including Keith Sorenson, who was third in the same pole vault competition. Discus thrower Ilyhia Greely and pole vaulter Katherine Martinez placed second on the women's side, Frankie Maciel was the men's 1,500-meter runner-up, and Abi Stevens claimed more hardware with a third-place showing in the women's long jump.

Le Bel, a sophomore from Central Point, set the winning mark at 15 feet 5 inches and cleared the bar on every attempt until going for a new PR at 16-0 ¾. He entered the meet as the top seed, his best of 15-9 standing at No. 10 on the NAIA list, while Sorenson took third as the No. 4 seed by clearing 14-9.

Martinez, a freshman, met the provisional-qualifying standard for the NAIA Outdoor Championships for the first time at 11-7 ¾ during her performance, jumping to No. 23 on the national list. She was bested only by the top mark in the country this season, put forth by British Columbia's Sonya Urbanowicz. SOU's Gabi Hansen joined Martinez as a points scorer in fifth place, her highest finish in three appearances at the meet, after topping her season-best by six inches at 9-2 ¼.

In the discus, Greely's initial throw of 131-7 was the best of the night until the final attempt from Eastern Oregon's Kenna Woodward, who won the competition with a PR of 133-9.

Maciel's runner-up effort made him SOU's top finisher in the men's 1,500 since 2016. He hit the finish line in 3 minutes 55.12 seconds, a half-second behind EOU's Hunter Nichols. The senior – whose season best (3:52.62) is No. 21 on the NAIA list – will return Saturday as the top seed in the 5K.

Coleton Urquhart was the Raiders' other men's scorer, taking seventh in the 110 hurdles (16.66).

As for Stevens, the All-CCC honor was the seventh of her career and her first in the long jump. She matched a PR on her first attempt before establishing a new one on the third at 18-5 ¼ to outperform her No. 5 seed.

SOU will be more prominently represented during Saturday's action, which begins at 11 a.m.
