MARION, Ind. Abi Stevens went out with a flourish in the high jump, Carson Le Bel made his first All-America splash in the pole vault, and Southern Oregon produced its highest-placing freshmen in the 5,000 meters ever on the final day of the NAIA Outdoor Championships.

Stevens – a junior in terms of athletic eligibility but a soon-to-be graduate – matched Jessa Perkinson for the most track and field All-America honors in Raider history with her 11th, tying for sixth place in the high jump a day after finishing second in the heptathlon. The product of West Allis, Wis., entered the competition as the No. 15 seed but cleared 5 feet 7 ¼ inches for a season-best and her top mark ever on the national stage.

She qualified for 11 national competitions in her career and placed top-seven in each of them. Only one other athlete in SOU women's history, Melanie Byrne – whose 1989 school heptathlon record Stevens broke on Thursday – had been a top-eight finisher in the high jump. Stevens placed sixth last year, fifth the year before that, and added a pair of All-America performances at the NAIA Indoor Championships.

Le Bel, a sophomore from Central Point, took eighth place in the pole vault as the No. 10 seed with a new PR of 15-11. Two other individuals who placed below him cleared the same bar, but they needed multiple attempts while Le Bel succeeded on his first. Until last month, the Cascade Conference champion hadn't cleared 15 feet.

SOU's freshman representatives, Mason Weisgerber and Alyssa Johnson, placed ninth and 10th respectively in their 5K finals. Weisgerber's time of 14 minutes 46.81 seconds left him just eight seconds outside of the top-eight; he'd entered the meet as the No. 19 seed before recording the second-fastest qualifying time in Thursday's prelims.

Johnson, who was seeded No. 31 entering the meet, hit the finish line in 17:58.24. She was just 12 seconds shy of entering the top-eight.

The Raiders left the meet with four All-America performances and seven top-10 efforts.
