TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

RENO, Nev. – The Southern Oregon men's wrestling team earned its top finish ever at the Reno Tournament of Champions in second place and produced its first champion at the annual event in Adrian Chavez-Morales on Sunday.

Chavez-Moralez won the 184-pound title for the No. 5-ranked Raiders, who had six individual placers and compiled 120 team points to stand only behind top-ranked Grand View (Iowa)'s 134. They landed ahead of both third-place Wyoming (99 1/2) and fourth-place Arizona State (88), the top NCAA Division I teams in attendance.

Isaac Hampton (125 pounds) and Asher Ruchti (197) were runners-up. Kyle Sieminski (125) placed third, Avant Stepherson (157) was fourth and Jackson Potts (174) took sixth in their respective brackets.

Chavez-Morales, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA at 184, pinned Rylan Taylor of New Mexico Highlands and Joe Trygstad of Colorado Mesa before a 5-1 win against an unattached opponent put him in the finals. There, he rolled to a 9-0 major decision against Western Wyoming's Banks Love.

The No. 2-ranked Ruchti's path to the finals included a pin, a major decision, and a 5-4 semifinal victory over Wyoming's Gunner Henry. He got a shot at Grand View's top-ranked Garavous Kouekabakilaho in the title match and lost 8-2.

Hampton dropped an 11-4 decision to Arizona State's Ane'e Vigil in the 125 championship after getting there with a pin, a major and a decision.

Sieminski went 4-1 with two pins and won his third-place match by medical forfeit. Stepherson reached the semifinals with a technical fall and two decisions before dropping his last two bouts. Potts won five matches on the day, including four straight in the consolation bracket before his fifth-place match was called a no-contest.
