ASHLAND – Southern Oregon's
Josh McDermott and
Isaac Fernandez were named the Cascade Conference's Mike Booth College Sports Communicators Staff of the Year on Thursday, the CCC office announced.
McDermott has led SOU's sports information efforts since 2013-14 and received the Mike Booth Award three times. Fernandez came on in November as assistant sports information director following an All-America career as a distance runner for the Raiders' track and cross country teams that ended in 2023.
Together, they promoted SOU's seven top-10 national team finishes during the 2024-25 season, which culminated in the Raider softball team's NAIA championship run. They hosted CCC tournament and championship events in soccer, basketball, golf, and track and field, as well as NAIA Opening Rounds in women's basketball, softball and volleyball.
Fernandez headed SOU's track and field coverage, putting a spotlight on the end of Abi Stevens' legendary career. The controversial 2022 CCC cross country champion also assisted with SOU's basketball coverage, contributed photography and videography, served as head statistician at home softball events, and was the on-site administrator for Raider beach volleyball.
