ASHLAND – Southern Oregon extended its home winning streak to 18 by defeating Cascade Conference foes Westcliff (Calif.), 48-9, and No. 17-ranked Corban, 32-13, in tri-dual action Friday at Bob Riehm Arena.
While boosting their record to 11-1, the No. 6 Raiders notched seven pins in the first victory and secured bonus points five times in the second. Dating back to last year, they've knocked off 13 consecutive CCC teams and taken 10 of those duals by double digits.
They went deep in the lineup against Westcliff, and after dropping the first match they won by fall in seven of the next eight.
Zach Keinonen (133 pounds),
Dylan Clark (141),
Trevor Wolf (149),
Shaiden Carr (165),
Jackson Potts (174),
Ethan Miller (184) and
Elias Corona (197) got the pins, and heavyweight
Justin Tripp's forfeit win finished the rout.
Keinonen and Corona both enjoyed 2-0 days. Corona got his second match by sudden victory, an 8-5 decision against Corban's Asaiah Kamplain.
Two empty Warrior lineup spots and two injury defaults took the air out of the Corban dual, though. After the Raiders accepted forfeits in back-to-back classes to start the matchup, they extended their lead to 19-0 as No. 21
Tyler Rhue (141) ran up an 11-1 major decision over Mason Thynes and No. 6
Kolton Malone (149) blanked No. 19 in a 5-0 decision.
Carr's injury, in the middle of his 165 bout with Jesse Rubio, was the first of the night. The second interrupted a marquee matchup between SOU's No. 8
Adrian Chavez-Morales and Corban's No. 4 Isaiah Twait, as the latter went out in the second period.
No. 13
Braylin Ruchti (174) picked up SOU's other points with a 12-2 major decision against Andres Nicacio. Gus Menne (157) earned a major decision for Corban and the Warriors' No. 2-ranked heavyweight Antonio Garcia (285) used a third-period takedown to hold off No. 22
Sebastian Echeverria, 4-1.
The biggest test left on SOU's schedule is 5 p.m. Saturday against No. 8 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.). It's the Raiders' penultimate home dual of the season.
