TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
McMINNVILLE – Redshirt-freshmen
Zach Keinonen and
Carson Gooley notched Linfield Mat 'Cat Open championships and four more individuals were top-four placers for the No. 5-ranked Southern Oregon men's wrestling team on Sunday.
Keinonen's second career tournament title run included four bonus-point victories in as many matches at 133 pounds. The Newberg product opened with a pin and a major decision and closed with back-to-back technical falls, defeating unattached opponent Jayce Miller 19-4 in the final.
The 197-pound Gooley took three decisions and registered a pin en route to his first collegiate title. He won 4-1 against David Rapp of Simpson (Calif.) in his championship match.
Dylan Straley was the runner-up at 157, going 3-1 with two technical falls. The Raiders produced third-place finishers in
Shaiden Carr (165),
Ethan Miller (184) and
Justin Tripp (285).
Timothy Lopez (141) finished fourth.
The outing was SOU's first in two weeks following the holiday break. The teams starters will be back in action Friday and Saturday at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
