ASHLAND – After spending a month on the road putting together its best-ever start, the Southern Oregon women's soccer team will be home for six of its final nine regular-season contests, starting this weekend, to battle for the Cascade Conference crown.
The unbeaten Raiders (6-0-2 overall, 3-0-0 CCC) begin the stretch against Carroll (Mont.) (2-2-4, 1-0-2) on Friday and Rocky Mountain (3-0-4, 1-0-2) on Saturday, with noon kickoffs set for both games at Raider Stadium's Laurel Field. They're perfect through three conference outings for the first time in 10 years after banking their third consecutive 2-0 victory last week at Oregon Tech. They're also looking to extend the longest regular-season unbeaten streak in team history, which stands at 12 games going back to last year.
BRIEFLY:
- Redshirt-freshman keeper Ashlyn Fuss was voted the CCC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time on Monday after previously earning the NAIA award for her 18-save performance at then-No. 3 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.). Through her first eight career starts, Fuss has made 39 saves and allowed two goals: her save rate of 95% is the best in the country and her goals-allowed average of 0.27 ranks second nationally.
- The Raiders have outscored their opponents 21-3 combined. Only two other teams in the NAIA have conceded three or fewer goals.
- Junior forward Ava Johnson completed the best month of her career with a goal in a third consecutive CCC game last week at Oregon Tech. She and teammate Tori Lasch are tied for No. 2 on the CCC leaderboard with six goals apiece, and Johnson is also third in total points with 14.
- Sophomore midfielder Macie Yannoni notched her team-leading second game-winning goal last week at Oregon Tech, giving her five goal contributions in eight games. She ranks sixth among CCC players with three assists, while freshman Brycelin Endrikat is third on the leaderboard with four.
- The Raiders got off to their hot start without the services of last year's top scorer, Abby McKean. The senior forward returned to the lineup for CCC play and is sitting on 17 career goals – the eighth-most in team history – after tallying 15 in 2025. The Raiders have also been without All-CCC senior defender Kaylah Bresee, who is hopeful to return from injury.
- Dating back to last year, the Raiders have kept clean sheets in seven consecutive CCC games.
- SOU went 7-1-1 at Raider Stadium last year and won this year's only home game against Simpson (Calif.), 2-1. Since the start of the decade, the Raiders are 31-8-4 at home.
ABOUT CARROLL: The Saints were picked fifth in the conference preseason poll after finishing last season in a tie for seventh place. They've gotten stellar results so far – one of their two losses was a 2-0 decision against the No. 1 team in the NAIA, Keiser (Fla.) – and they'll remain a competitive side as long as their three-time All-CCC goalkeeper, Maria Ackerman, is in the lineup. They have also returned the services of junior forward Delaney Moczan – who was injured last year but is back and on 25 career goals – along with three-time All-CCC defender Avery Lambourne. SOU won last year's matchup in Helena, 2-0, with a pair of second-half goals and is unbeaten in each of the last seven. Carroll leads the all-time series, 7-6-3.
ABOUT ROCKY: The Raiders will see another all-conference keeper in Battlin' Bears sophomore Matea Vernon and one of the circuit's top attacking threats in senior Charlize Davis (6 goals, 4 assists). Davis has led them to multiple goals in all but one game during their unbeaten start, but the Raiders shut her down a season ago in their 3-0 win in Billings. SOU is 6-5-4 in the all-time series and hasn't lost to Rocky at home since 2016.
