SPRINGFIELD – The Southern Oregon men's wrestling team hit the 15-win mark in back-to-back seasons for the second time in program history, defeating rival Eastern Oregon 30-12 on Friday night at Thurston High School.
The No. 6-ranked Raiders (15-1) won seven of 10 matches and notched bonus points in five of them against the No. 25 Mountaineers (6-6) to secure their fourth consecutive double-digit victory in the head-to-head series and sixth straight overall.
Kyle Sieminski, ranked No. 17 at 125 pounds, accounted for the lone win by fall, needing just 24 seconds to dismiss Jackson Eylar in the opener.
Dylan Clark (141) and No. 4
Adrian Chavez-Morales (184) earned technical falls, and No. 6
Avant Stepherson (157) and No. 4
Asher Ruchti (197) banked major decisions.
Stepherson's was SOU's only Top 25 win of the night, an 18-7 final against No. 24 Carlos Valdez. The Mountaineers got one from No. 21 Eric Larwin (149), who upset No. 6
Kolton Malone with a second-round pin.
Starting at 157, the Raiders at one point won five consecutive matches.
Cole Zoller (165) and No. 12
Braylin Ruchti (174) contributed decisions during the run, which extended the team's lead from 11-9 to 30-9.
The dual was the Raiders' last against Cascade Conference competition. They went 9-0 in those matchups.
Their final home appearance – and last outing before the postseason – is 4 p.m. Saturday against Linfield at Bob Riehm Arena.
