CHICO, Calif. — Katherine Martinez showed no signs of rust, breaking her own program record and notching the NAIA 'A' mark in pole vault on Saturday at the Chico Wildcat Invitational.

Martinez won the event, vaulting 12 feet 9 inches (3.89m) and breaking her previous best and own SOU record height by 5 ½ inches. The Crescent City, Calif., native cleared well over the NAIA 'A' standard of 3.78 meters, punching a ticket to the Outdoor National Championships for the second consecutive year. She holds the top spot on the NAIA performance list and her new record is 7 ½ inches higher than SOU's No. 2 mark.

Vaulting-mate Sydney Perkins placed fourth with a Cascade Conference Championship qualifying height of 3.54 meters (11-7 ¼). It's the second best performance of her career and an NAIA No. 2 mark.

Five other Raiders posted CCC qualifying marks: Alyssa Johnson (1,500), Trey Lucas (200), Zak Weddell (110 hurdles), Gabby Morfin (100 hurdles), and Johanna Heil (javelin).

Johnson finished seventh in the women's 1,500-meter race, running a personal best and SOU No. 6 time of 4 minutes 41.95 seconds. It's the fastest time in the NAIA by nearly seven seconds and almost nine seconds faster than last season's 1,500-meter opener (4:50.23). Six other Raiders joined Johnson in the race, including Emily Picard, who placed 21st in 4:55.67 and Alaina Casady, who took 30th in 5:00.72.

Lucas placed eighth in the men's 200-meter run, finishing in a personal best time of 22.24. The sophomore competed in three other events throughout the day, taking 15th in the 100 (11.17), sixth in the 4x100 meter relay (44.04) and fifth in the 4x400 (3:29.84).

The three other CCC qualifiers were freshmen. Weddell placed ninth in the 110-meter hurdles prelims in 16.82 before taking seventh in the final with a personal best time of 16.74. Morfin also qualified for her 100-meter hurdles finals, placing fifth with an NAIA No. 3 time of 15.93. Heil won javelin with the furthest throw in the nation this year, recording a distance of 37.40 meters (122-8). The Lakeview High grad etched her name into SOU's record book, moving into the No. 9 spot on the all-time javelin list.

Up next for the Raiders are the Pacific Northwest Invite hosted by Oregon State on Mar. 20-21 and the Umpqua Multis Invite on Mar. 23-24.
