CORVALLIS — Alyssa Johnson and Mason Weisgerber claimed first-place finishes and Carter Stedman ran an NAIA-leading time on Friday and Saturday at the Pacific Northwest Invite hosted by Oregon State.

Johnson, who was named last week's Cascade Conference athlete of the week, won the women's 5,000-meter race with a time of 17 minutes 7.95 seconds to run the NAIA 'B' standard. It's the second fastest time in the NAIA this year and just nine seconds off the auto-qualifying mark. The junior has only run faster once in her life — which was No. 3 on SOU's all-time list —, taking eighth in 17:02.83 at last year's Oregon State High Performance meet.

Johnson was in second place headed into the bell lap, before splitting 1:14.43 over the final 400 meters to overtake Seattle University's Azalea Groleau. She finished nearly five seconds ahead of runner-up Morgan Erler of Northwest Nazarene.

Stedman ran an NAIA-leading 5k time of 14:33.42, placing eighth in the 61-person race. It's an eight-second personal best for the junior and the ninth-fastest time in SOU history as he picked up the first provisional qualifying mark of the year for the men's squad.

The Raiders picked up another event win with Weisgerber and Josh Hepner going one-two in the 1,500-meter race. Weisgerber crossed the line first in an SOU No. 9 time of 3:52.86, with Hepner following directly behind in 3:53.57. They ran NAIA Nos. 4 and 5 times, respectively.

The pair closed the final two laps hard. Weisgerber was in seventh place at 700 meters before covering the final 800 meters in 2:01.12 and Hepner was in eighth before closing in 2:01.42. They beat out a field of 64 and posted Cascade Conference Championship qualifying marks. Hepner's 3:53.57 is No. 2 all-time in program history for a freshman.

Brodie Leslie placed 14th out of 72 finishers in the 100-meter run, crossing the line in a personal best time of 11.0 and Trey Lucas ran 49.77 to take fifth in the 400. Both Raiders posted CCC qualifying marks.

Freshmen Alaina Casady and Emily Picard also qualified for the Cascade Conference Championships in the 5k. Casady placed 12th in 18:15.16 and Picard finished in 13th with a time of 18:18.32.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team capped off the meet with a third-place finish. The team, made up of Isaiah Hidalgo, Lucas, Cohen Elrod, and Leslie, posted a season best and a CCC-leading time of 3:24.69.

Hayden Roth ran a 5k personal best (15:27.72) and Gus Blank ran a 1,500 season best (3:59.88).

Next week, SOU competes at the Upmqua Multis on Mar. 23-24 and at the Cal Poly Humboldt Invite on Mar. 28.
