CHICO, Calif. — Carter Stedman won the 1,500-meter run, and Sydney Perkins and Drew Hood earned second-place finishes on Saturday at the Chico Invitational.

In his 1,500-meter season debut, Stedman finished in 4 minutes 0.49 seconds to beat out a 64-person field and claim first. The junior edged UC Santa Cruz's Caeden Gardner by just 35-hundredths of a second as he won his first race of the outdoor season.

Perkins matched her personal best in pole vault, claiming second place with a height of 11 feet 11.75 inches (3.65 meters). The junior has placed second in pole vault in her last three outings, getting over at least 11-9 in those finishes.

Hood, a freshman from North Bend, threw a season's best in javelin, placing second of 18 with a mark of 122 feet (37.19m). It was just over seven feet further than her SOU debut at last week's Linfield meet. It was also the third-best mark of her life.

The Southern Oregon sprinters finished with three personal bests and a new Cascade Conference qualifying mark. Brodie Leslie placed fifth of 50 overall in the 100-meter prelims with a personal best time of 10.85. Trey Lucas ran a CCC qualifying time in the 100-meter, finishing 15th in the prelims with a season's best time of 11.06. Lucas came back later to run a PB in the 200, placing seventh in 22.19.

Isaiah Hidalgo ran a personal best in the 100, finishing in 11.30 seconds. The senior from Ceres, Calif., also competed in long jump (18-6).

Lilly Pickett placed third in the 400 (58.06), Johanna Heil was fourth in javelin (110-8) and Gabby Morfin placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdle final (16.92) after finishing seventh in the prelims with a season's best time of 15.46.

Izzie Calingasan, a freshman from Oklahoma City, ran a seven-second personal best in the 1,500, finishing with a time of 5:07.77. She also competed in the 800 (2:31.29).

SOU has a packed schedule next week, hosting the CCC Multi-Event Championships and Raider Invitational from Thursday to Saturday. The Raiders will also send a squad to race the 10K on Thursday morning at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif.
