ASHLAND — Zak Weddell and Ali Stevens both sit in eighth place after Day 1 of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships presented by U.S. Bank on Thursday at Raider Stadium.

Halfway through the men's decathlon, Weddell posted a score of 3,151 points, leaving him 241 points behind third place and 432 points behind Eastern Oregon's first-place Nathan Wachs.

The freshman opened up the day with a personal best in the 100-meter dash, placing seventh in 11.33 seconds. He set two more lifetime bests after that, finishing second in shot put with a throw of 11.69 meters and third in the 400-meter run in 51.15.

Stevens – who was recruited from the SOU women's basketball team earlier this season – put up 2,226 points through four events in her first-ever heptathlon. The junior set personal bests in the high jump, clearing 1.37 meters (4-6) and in the 200m, running 27.15.

Stevens, a North Medford graduate, trails third place by 341 points and first-place Lizzy Grandle from Eastern Oregon by 910 points.

Two more Raiders are fighting for position on the heptathlon leaderboard. Gabby Morfin ended the day in 12th, setting a PB in shot put (9.01m/29-6 ¾) and Johanna Heil recorded personal bests in shot put (8.07m/26-5 ¾) and high jump (1.22m/4-0).

The remaining disciplines in the decathlon are the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m. The long jump, javelin and 800m round out the heptathlon.

The men kick off Friday's Day 2 at 10 a.m. and the women begin at 10:15 a.m.
