ASHLAND — Emily Picard won the women's 1,500-meter run and Josh Hepner took the men's crown on Day 1 of the Raider Invitational on Friday afternoon. 

Picard beat out a field of 16, running a season's best of 4 minutes 52.59 seconds. The freshman led from 700 meters onward and was just a tick ahead of Corban's Shaelee Killorn and Josephine Rothman at the bell lap. She closed the final 400 meters in 72.25 seconds, winning by nearly six seconds. 

Similarly, in the men's 1,500-meter, Hepner led from 700 meters to the end, finishing in 3:57.41. The freshman burned a 60.88-second final lap, holding off Cal Poly Humboldt's James Woolery. It was the third-fastest 1,500-meter time in his running career. 

Hayden Roth placed second and was the first collegiate finisher in the 5,000-meter, finishing with a personal best time of 15:15.45 and Lilly Pickett was third in the 200-meter dash with a Cascade Conference Championship qualifying time of 25.65. 

Alaina Casady was third in the 5K (18:27.07) and Trey Lucas came in fourth in the 200m (22.25). 

The Raider Invitational continues on Saturday morning, with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and track events at noon.
