ASHLAND — Trey Lucas placed first in the 400-meter race and Lilly Pickett won her 800-meter debut on Day 2 of the Raider Invitational on Saturday.

Lucas, a sophomore from Bend, set a personal best and improved upon his Cascade Collegiate Conference qualifying time, winning the 400m in 48.84 seconds. It was his first time dipping under 49 seconds in the event, marking the third time a Raider has run under that benchmark in the past nine years.

Pickett made her 800-meter debut, winning with an SOU No. 5 time of 2:15.93. The freshman led from the gun, splitting the first lap in 64.52 seconds. Only four other women in program history have run under 2:16 for 800 meters.

Two more freshmen, Emily Picard and Izzie Calingasan, posted personal bests in the 800m. Picard placed second in 2:20.41, improving by nearly five seconds, and Calingasan was fourth in 2:23.36, improving by two seconds. Picard and Pickett both ran CCC qualifying times.

Drew Hood finished second in the javelin throw, posting her best distance of 119 feet 9 inches (36.50m) on her third attempt. The freshman also threw a personal best of 91-9 in Friday's discus.

Gus Blank and Josh Hepner made their Raider 800-meter debuts, placing third and sixth, respectively. Blank sat in 10th place headed into the bell lap after running 57.34 for the first 400 meters. He closed with a 58.37-second lap and passed six competitors to finish in 1:55.71. Hepner crossed the line in 1:56.09 as both runners qualified for the CCC Championships.

SOU honored four senior athletes before the start of the track events. They acknowledged Katherine Martinez from Crescent City, Calif., Isaiah Hidalgo from Modesto, Calif., Alyssa Johnson from Veneta and Natalie Sandeen from Grants Pass.

Hidalgo placed 11th in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 11.29 seconds and finished 10th in long jump, covering 18-1 ¼. Sandeen ran 19:54.82 in Friday night's 5K and Johnson posted a time of 35:13.88 for 10K at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday morning in Southern California.

The Raiders have one more weekend of competition before the Cascade Conference Championships in La Grande, splitting action between the Oregon State High Performance Meet and the Linfield Open on May 1-2.
