ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon track and field team's last-chance meets yielded some big marks and a pair of McDonald's Cascade Conference Athlete of the Week awards, presented by Urban Edge Network, the CCC office announced Monday.

Senior pole vaulter Sydney Perkins was voted the Women's Field Athlete of the Week and junior distance runner Mason Weisgerber earned the Men's Track Athlete of the Week award for the Raiders, who will compete in the CCC Championships this weekend in La Grande.

At Saturday's Linfield Open, Perkins won the pole vault and became an automatic qualifier for the NAIA Outdoor Championships. She cleared 12 feet 4 ¾ inches, marking a four-inch PR and giving her the No. 11 spot on the national performance list. Perkins ranks third among CCC vaulters.

On Friday at the Oregon State High Performance Meet, Weisgerber was a runaway winner in the 5,000-meter Invite race against a field that included a handful NCAA Division I runners. The All-American's time of 14:17.26 beat the runner-up by over seven seconds.

Weisgerber came into the meet with an NAIA 'A' time of 14:08.78 that ranks fifth nationally. He's also an automatic national qualifier in the 10K with a mark of 29:49.30 that ranks fifth.
