LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon University hosts the Cascade Conference Track and Field Championships presented by U.S. Bank this weekend, with events beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Banner Bank Track.
Southern Oregon will have 13 men's athletes and 13 women's athletes competing across 25 events at the meet. The Raiders won't have the numbers to contend for a team title, but they have a handful of competitors who will vie for first-place finishes in their respective events.
This will be the third time the Mounties have hosted the CCC Championships this decade, with them last held in La Grande in 2021 and 2023.
The top-three placers in each event will earn All-Conference accolades. Following the championships, a top male and female athlete will be named in the track and field events.
A look at what to watch this weekend:
SOU MEN'S GLANCE
SPRINTS/HURDLES: Trey Lucas is the sixth seed in Friday's 400-meter run after winning the event in front of his home crowd at the Raider Invitational with a personal best time of 48.84. It was the sophomore's first time dipping under 49 seconds and his second time running a PB in the event this season. He's also slated for Saturday's 200-meter final after winning the Nancy & Norm Berney Classic with a personal best of 22.17, despite running into a -2.2 headwind.
Zak Weddell is scheduled to compete in both the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles as the No. 11 and No. 17 seeds. The freshman already put six points on the board for the Raiders and earned an All-Conference nod by placing third in the decathlon at the CCC Multi-Event Championships in late March.
Both the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay teams are seeded seventh. The 4x100m team (Isaiah Hidalgo, Brodie Leslie, Cohen Elrod, Lucas) posted a best of 42.50 at the Jenn Boyman Invite and the 4x400m team of Weddell, Gus Blank, Leslie and Lucas will be competing together for the first time this season.
DISTANCE: Colossal efforts from Mason Weisgerber this year landed him with NAIA No. 5 times for both the 5K (14:08.78) and 10K (29:49.30), but his weekend is far from a cakewalk. The Cascade Conference's addition of Trinity Western (B.C.) included Canadian sophomore Yemane Mulugeta, who ran the second fastest 5K in the NAIA this season, finishing in 13:56.22 at Bryan Clay. This will be Weisgerber's first head-to-head racing against him this track season after meeting four times during the cross country season. Mulugeta was crowned the CCC title on the grass, but Weisgerber edged him at the NAIA Championships. Weisgerber finished third in the 5K at the 2025 CCC Championships.
Carter Stedman is seeded fourth in the 5K behind another Trinity Western athlete, Justin Kiplagat (14:21.20). Stedman ran a personal best time of 14:28.00 at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and currently sits in tenth on the NAIA performance list. He's also seeded No. 6 with 3:53.12 in the Southern Oregon 1,500m wave with No. 5 Weisgerber (3:52.86) and No. 7 Josh Hepner (3:53.27).
Gus Blank exploded into CCC podium conversations after running an 800-meter personal best of 1:53.51 at the Oregon State High Performance Meet. Before that, the freshman had only raced the event one other time this season, finishing in 1:55.71 at the Raider Invite. He's seeded third behind top-ranked Kobe Wessels (1:52.09) of Lewis-Clark (Idaho) and No. 2 Kai Martland (1:52.97) of British Columbia (B.C.). Unlike Wessels, who's running the 1,500m on Friday, Blank will start Saturday's race with a fresh pair of legs, but so will three other competitors in the fastest heat. The Raiders haven't had an All-Conference finish in the men's 800m since AJ Sandvig in 2019.
JUMPS: Isaiah Sherman and Isaiah Hidalgo represent SOU in the jumps department. Hidalgo set a huge personal best in long jump, covering 21 feet 3 inches (6.48m) at the Nancy & Norm Berney Classic. The senior is also competing in the 100-meter dash and the 4x100m relay. Sherman is competing in the CCC Championships for the first time after posting a pole vault personal best of 13-0 ¾ at the Cal Poly Humboldt Invitational.

SOU WOMEN'S GLANCE
SPRINTS/HURDLES: Lilly Pickett headlines the Raiders' sprints squad as the top-ranked entry in the 400-meter. She ran her personal best of 55.36 at the Nancy & Norm Berney Classic two weeks ago and currently sits 14th on the NAIA performance list. She's the only true freshman in Friday's final and will contend with UBC's Gwyndolin Katics, the only other entry to finish under 56 seconds this spring. The meet record is 54.17, set by Hanna Sobkowich of British Columbia at last year's championships.
Gabby Morfin is the No. 10 seed in the 100-meter hurdles (15.46) and Ali Stevens is the No. 15 seed in the 400-meter hurdles. The Raiders are debuting a 4x400-meter relay team, made up of Stevens, Izzie Calingasan, Emily Picard and Pickett.
DISTANCE: Top-seeded Alyssa Johnson's path to a 5,000-meter championship may just be uncontested. The reigning CCC 5K runner-up has run nearly a whole minute faster than the next-seeded entry in Saturday's final. She posted a personal best of 16:47.35 in pristine San Francisco weather conditions in early April and nearly matched her best with a 16:48.52 in last week's unforgivable wind at Oregon State. In the NAIA, she's currently ranked fourth in the 5K and sixth in the 10K. Fifth-seeded Alaina Casady joins her after running 18:18.32 at the Pacific Northwest Invite. The freshman could steal a spot on the podium – the three women seeded in front of her are all competing in the 10K the night before.
Less than two seconds separate the top six athletes in Saturday's 800-meter final and Lilly Pickett has thrown herself in the mix. She finished in a lifetime best of 2:13.98 at last week's Oregon State High Performance Meet, just eight-hundredths of a second off the NAIA 'B' standard. Another freshman, Emily Picard, is seeded 17th at 2:20.41. College of Idaho's Kiely Munson (2:12.61) and Kylee Quinton (2:12.69) are the top-ranked entries.
JUMPS: SOU's vaulters are having a historic season, but will still have to contend with three-time NAIA champion Sonya Urbanowicz from UBC. No. 2-seeded Katherine Martinez improved upon her program record in her season debut, clearing 12 feet 9 inches (3.89m) at the Chico Wildcat Invitational. She's looking to earn her second All-CCC honor after a runner-up finish at the 2024 Conference Championships. Luckily, she's accompanied by No. 3-seeded Sydney Perkins, who's been on a heater. Since placing fourth at the Wildcat Invite (3.54m), the senior has earned three second-place finishes, set a personal best on three occasions, and won two meets. At last week's Linfield Open, she became an automatic qualifier to the NAIA Championships by clearing 12 feet 4.75 inches. In the NAIA, Martinez and Perkins are ranked No. 7 and No. 11, respectively.
Gabby Morfin set a long jump personal best of 17-11 ¾ (5.48m) at the Jenn Boyman Invitational to earn the fifth seed in Friday's final. Along with the 100m hurdles, the freshman is competing in high jump (1.49m).
THROWS: A pair of freshmen will hold down the throws department for Southern Oregon. Drew Hood is seeded 12th in javelin and Johanna Heil is the No. 15 seed. Hood threw a personal best of 126-10 ¾ (38.68m) at the Nancy & Norm Berney Classic and Heil set a season's best of 122-8 ½ (37.40m) at the Chico Wildcat Invitational.
