The Southern Oregon women's tennis team opened up the regular season with a 6-1 setback at NCAA Division I Portland State tonight.
The Raiders will stay in the Portland area and face George Fox and Seattle University on Saturday and Pacific on Sunday.
"It was a good match," first-year SOU head coach Ari Zaslow said. "We were playing against a Division I program, so I expected a battle. This is part of setting the bar high and this is the level we have to play at as we look to have a successful season."
Allison Bostrom (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley) got the lone victory for the Raiders, scoring a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the No. 1 singles match.
"She played great," Zaslow said. "She didn't have many errors and hit on a lot of first serves. I couldn't ask for much more from her."
Zaslow also praised the play of
Addie Morrow (Redding, Calif./Foothill) and
Katrina Sauer (Soldotna, Alaska/Cactus) in the No. 3 doubles match and
Kayla Carroll (Butteville, Ore./North Marion) in the No. 6 singles match.
Morrow and Sauer were up 6-1 before they fell 9-7 and Carroll loss her match 6-4, 6-4.
