Continuing with the toughest schedule in program history, the Southern Oregon women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to second-ranked Fresno Pacific today in Fresno, Calif.
Fresno Pacific improved to 15-1 on the season with the victory. Southern Oregon dropped to 3-4. The four losses have come to NCAA Division I's Portland State and Seattle University and NAIA's second-ranked Fresno Pacific and seventh-ranked Vanguard. The road trip continues tomorrow at NCAA Division II Sonoma State.
"These matches are showing us a different level of tennis and what it takes to get to that level," SOU head coach Ari Zaslow said. "We get to see some top level players and how they move to the ball and set up for the ball. The little errors we make, they don't make."
The Raiders were again playing against a roster full of top level foreign born players, with only one of the Sunbirds' top six born in America.
Zaslow was quick to acknowledge the play of senior
Katrina Sauer (Soldotna, Alaska/Cactus) in the No. 6 singles match. Sauer was up 4-1 in the first set before following in straight sets.
