OREGON CITY – Three Raiders claimed first place and three more placed in the top-four for the 17th-ranked Southern Oregon University wrestling team Sunday at the Clackamas Open.

Casey Coulter, SOU's 125-pounder, joined a pair of usual suspects in Tyler Cowger (149) and Ryan McWatters (184) with titles. Hunter Hodges placed fourth at 157 pounds, while teammates Tanner Fischer and TJ Cavender both advanced to the 197-pound third-place match but elected to default.

Coulter, a sophomore, won his first collegiate tournament championship by allowing just three total points in three straight decisions. He shut out North Idaho's Garrett White, 5-0, and took down Warner Pacific's Joshua Johnson (4-2) and Clackamas Community College's DeVaughn Sapien (7-1) in the semifinal and title matches.

Cowger, ranked fourth in the NAIA at 149 pounds, earned his third straight tournament title with five consecutive wins. He reached the quarterfinals by beating Deondre Sparks, 5-2, and pinning WPC's Charles Peterson with four seconds left in the first round. His next two wins were major decisions – 11-0 over unattached teammate Devin Poppen and 15-1 over Oregon State's Alex Rich. He nipped OSU's Bryce Parson in the championship bout, 6-4.

McWatters, also ranked fourth at 184, got to his final with a 12-3 major decision against Southwestern Oregon's Chase Anderson and a pin of Clackamas' Julio Fuentes 5 minutes 30 seconds into the match. His title match was also decisive, 9-3 over Clackmas' Haszell West.

Hodges won his first two matches to reach the semifinals of the 157-pound braket – by 9-4 decision over Brandon Davidson of Clackamas, and by 17-6 major decision over Robert Frasier of Warner Pacific. He defaulted the rest of the way, though, due to injury.

A pin of Clackamas' Kenny Walther in 3:28 sent Cavender to the 197 semifinals, where he was pinned in 1:19 by Highline's Elias Mason. In the consolation semis, he defeated Simon Frasier's Ciaran Ball, 4-2. Meanwhile, Fischer, ranked 16th in the NAIA, won twice to reach the semis – 15-4 over Simpson's Erik Medina and 9-2 over Highline's Josh Wessels. Oregon State's Ihoghama Odighizuwa sent Cavender to the consolation bracket with a pin, and he finished with a pin of Walther.

Chandler Michael (149) also won three times to reach the semifinals before dropping his last two matches. Tanner Canaday (149) won three times before dropping the fourth-place match, while Reed Tennyson (174) and Zane Wardwell (285) recorded two wins apiece.

The Raiders return to dual action Thursday with a 7 p.m. matchup against Simpson in Redding, Calif.
