Southern Oregon gets EOU on own goal

10/1/2016 5:48:00 PM

Box Score LA GRANDE – An own goal by Eastern Oregon was the difference in Saturday's men's soccer game, as Southern Oregon defeated the Mountaineers, 1-0 at EOU Soccer Field.

In the 35th minute, Ahmon Afenegus attempted a corner kick, but the save was mishandled, resulting in an own goal by the Mountaineers.

The Mountaineers (6-4-1 overall, 1-4-1 Cascade Conference) outshot the Raiders (6-2-1 overall, 4-1-1) 17-8, but SOU prevented EOU from attempting a shot on goal and shot seven of their eight shots on goal.

SOU improved to 4-0 on the road in CCC play, completing a perfect weekend after Friday's 1-0 win at Warner Pacific.

With the win, the Raiders are 2-0 all-time against the Mountaineers, shutting them out in both games. SOU joins Corban, Northwest and Oregon Tech as the only teams to win at least four games in Cascade Conference play this season.

The Raiders' sixth shutout of the season ties the 2015 team, which had six shutouts over 18 games.

Jonathan Morales, SOU's senior keeper, has been credited with all of them in 2016.

SOU will look to add onto its 2-1-1 record at Raider Stadium over its four-game homestand starting on Friday against The Evergreen State (3-0-2 Overall. 2-0-2 CCC) at 4 p.m. and Northwest (8-2 Overall, 4-1 CCC) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
