PORTLAND
Jared Delaney used his head to stick the lone goal in the 73rd minute and the Southern Oregon men's soccer team earned a quality road win Friday afternoon against Warner Pacific, 1-0 at Portland Adventist Academy's Damazo Field.

Delaney, a freshman midfielder from Klamath Falls, has scored both of his goals in Cascade Conference play. This one, which helped the Raiders avoid a third straight overtime affair, was set up when Zac Hansen's long throw-in was flicked along by Paul Matyas to Delaney, who had room to float a header over WPC keeper Erdal Barkay.

SOU improved to 3-1-1 in the Cascade Conference and 5-2-1 overall heading into Saturday's game at Eastern Oregon. The Raiders had lost their only previous meeting against Warner Pacific last year in Ashland, 4-1.

The Knights (1-6-1 overall), who went 8-4-1 in the conference in 2015, dropped to 0-4-1.

WPC was limited to one shot on goal – Owen Nwankolo's in the 77th minute – and it was saved by Raider keeper Jonathan Morales.

SOU put five of its seven shots on goal and maintained a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The shutout was the Raiders' fifth of the season, including the third in CCC action, equaling their 2015 totals.

SOU will attempt to improve its mark on the road in CCC play to 4-0 against the Mountaineers, who fell to 1-3-1 in conference play with a 1-0 loss Friday against Oregon Tech.
