ASHLAND – The Cascade Conference has selected the Southern Oregon women's basketball team as the Under Armour Team of the Week and
Riley Donovan as the WVT Laboratory Softball Player of the Week, the CCC office announced Monday.
The Raider women's basketball team claimed the CCC Tournament title last week for the first time in six years, winning the championship game 56-34 at 19th-ranked Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) while holding the Warriors to their lowest point total in at least 20 years.
They'll bring a 28-5 record to the NAIA National Tournament, playing in the Round of 64 as a No. 10 seed against No. 7-seeded Georgetown (Ky.) at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Santa Clarita, Calif.
Donovan went 5-for-8 at the plate with seven RBIs, four runs scored, four walks and home runs in both wins as the Raiders took two of three games from Arizona Christian over the weekend. The catcher has reached base safely in all 20 games this season.
The Raider softball team was originally scheduled to play a four-game CCC series this Friday and Saturday at Providence (Mont.). But because the Argos' home field is currently unplayable, the teams will move to a neutral site in Caldwell, Idaho, and play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
