ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon University soccer teams netted men's and women's Defensive Player of the Week awards on Monday as Michael Mutchukian and Ashlyn Fuss were both honored for the second time this season.

The recognition came on the heels of a successful trip to Klamath Falls, where the Raider teams scored matching 2-0 victories in CCC play last Friday to keep their records unbeaten.

Mutchukian starred all over the field to collect the award for the second week in a row. The junior defender from Las Vegas prevented the Owls from equalizing in the first half by sliding in behind his drawn-out keeper and making a save at the goal line. In the 66th minute, he deposited his third goal of the season by heading JP Warnell's throw-in to the far post.

Fuss – a redshirt-freshman who was previously the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week – made six saves to preserve her fifth shutout of the season and third in a row. She upped her NAIA-best save rate to 95% and currently has the second-best goals-allowed average in the country at 0.27.

SOU returns to Raider Stadium for a key homestand this week, facing Carroll (Mont.) on Friday and Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Saturday. The women's games start at noon and the men's at 2:30 p.m. on both days.
