SALEM – The Southern Oregon women's golf team knocked out two program milestones in one round with a big finish Sunday at the Willamette Valley Cup.

Haley Brown became the Raiders' first medalist and led the team to its first tournament title at Creekside Golf Club. Brown, a junior from Gold Hill, closed with a 7-over-par 79 and finished at 20-over in the two-round event to top a field of 22.

The Raiders accumulate 349 strokes as a team in Round 2 – shaving 12 strokes off of their Round 1 score – to finish 16 ahead of second-place Pacific. Puget Sound, the only other team with enough entries to generate a team score, was 50 strokes behind SOU in third.

Brown entered the day three strokes behind the leader, Bushnell's Analise Aubin, and finished 11 ahead of her, sealing the victory by parring seven of her last eight holes. SOU freshman Thyra Altvatter carded the second-best Round 2 score with an 82 – a 14-stroke improvement over Round 1 – and finished tied for fourth at 34-over in the tournament. Bryn Lawson (+37) took eighth and Carley Streitler (+43) was 11th.

The Raider men placed fourth of 10 in the team standings at 28-over after shooting 12-over in Round 2.

Ricky Reisner tied for sixth of 61 on the individual leaderboard at 1-over after carding a 74 on Sunday, and Matt Forsyth tied for 10th at 3-over after turning in the second-best score in Round 2 at 2-under. Nathaniel Frink was a stroke behind Forsyth in a tie for 12th place.

The Raiders compete again next Sunday through Tuesday at The Master's Spring Invite in Palmdale, Calif.
