CRESWELL – Freshman Matt Forsyth led the way in Southern Oregon University's debut appearance at the Cascade Conference Golf Championships presented by U.S. Bank, sitting tied for eighth place on the men's leaderboard through the first of three rounds Monday at Emerald Valley Golf Club.

Forsyth shot 4-over on the par-71 course, heading a steady performance for the Raiders that left them in fourth place of nine men's teams. Nathaniel Frink is 5-over, Ricky Reisner is six-over, and the team's fourth and final current scorer, Preston Brandt, is 9-over.

British Columbia tops the team standings at 11-over, 13 strokes up on SOU. Lewis-Clark State's Jørgen Viken has a four-stroke lead individually at 5-under; only one other player sits under par.

Haley Brown shot 12-over to lead the Raider women, who are in fifth place of six teams. She's 16th of 30 on the individual leaderboard, while Thyra Altvatter and Bryn Lawson are tied for 21st at 20-over on the par-72 tees.

Top-ranked British Columbia has already built a 25-stroke lead at 3-over collectively behind individual leader Jessica Ng (-2).

Round 2 will get off to a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, and the final round starts at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
