LA GRANDE – Men's throwers accounted for four of Southern Oregon's six All-Cascade Conference performances as Day 1 of the CCC Track & Field Championships presented by U.S. Bank concluded Friday night at Banner Bank Track.

For the Raider men, Wayne Garcia and Matthew O'Henley claimed second and third place in the hammer, while Luke King and Tre Holmes took second and third in the shot put. For the women, Abi Stevens was second place in the high jump for the second straight season and Sydnee Kizziar finished third in the 10,000 meters.

Both SOU teams will enter Day 2 fifth in the team standings, the men with 44 points and the women with 49. Eastern Oregon has a 51-point lead in the men's team race with 125, and British Columbia is up 17 ½ points on EOU with 105 on the women's side.

The Raider men accumulated 38 of their points across two throws disciplines. Garcia led the way in the hammer, earning an All-CCC spot for the second year in a row with a personal-best mark of 181 feet 8 inches, and O'Henley became a top-three placer for the first time at 168-11. Kianush Behbehani-Escobar added three more points in sixth place at 159-1.

King, already an automatic qualifier for the NAIA Outdoor Championships in the shot put, went 51-8 ½ for his runner-up showing, and Holmes snagged his first All-CCC honor with a mark of 49-7. O'Henley (46-8 ¼) and Andrew Mitchell (44-5 ¼) checked in at fifth and sixth place, giving SOU more than half of the points available in the event.

SOU had three more men's scorers: sixth-place Cade O'Connor in the 400 meters (49.58), eighth-place Frankie Maciel in the 10K (31:57.15) and eighth-place Carson Le Bel in the high jump (6-1 ½).

Seven different Raiders contributed points to the women's team score, including Stevens in three different disciplines. The sophomore – who'd already placed second in the CCC heptathlon last month – was just an inch short of Lewis-Clark State winner Jennah Carpenter in the high jump, clearing 5-6 in her second-best effort of the season. She was also fifth in the 100 hurdles (15.42), where India Collins placed fourth with a season-best time of 15.29, and eighth in the long jump (17-8 ¾), where Jenna Hodges scored for the third straight year in seventh (17-11).

Kizziar's third-place finish in the 10K was completed in 37:52.47 – a PR good for an NAIA 'B' mark. A three-time All-CCC performer in cross country, she attained that status on the track for the first time.

The Raider women also had a trio of fifth-place efforts: in the 400, Aayzia Dumas (59.23); in the 3K steeplechase, Lauren Forster (12:13.16); and in the shot put, Andrea Osbon (40-11 ¾).

Saturday's field events begin at 11 a.m., and the first race on the track is scheduled for 2 p.m.
