Raider men, women sharp on Day 1 of 2nd CCC tourney

BREMERTON, Wash.Riley Kirk is in fifth place for the Southern Oregon men and Keira Cheng is in eighth for the women after Monday's opening of the UBC Fall Invitational, the second Cascade Conference-counting event on the golf schedule.

Kirk is 2-under through two of three rounds on the men's side after totaling 71 strokes in both at Gold Mountain Golf Club. He and the Raiders are fourth of 11 in the team standings but trail only No. 9-ranked British Columbia among the CCC teams competing. They finished the day 18-over, having combined for an impressive 6-over first round.

Ethan Miller is the other top-20 Raider at the moment, standing in a tie for 19th in the 66-person field with a score of 5-over.

In the first of two rounds at the women's tournament, SOU shot its low team round of the season by a margin of 18 strokes with a 23-over score of 311. The Raiders are in fourth place overall – third among CCC teams – and are up four strokes on No. 23-ranked Lewis-Clark State (Idaho).

Keira Cheng's low CCC round of the fall, a 2-over 74, put her in a tie for eighth. Haley Brown is 13th at 5-over, and Mia Bontrager 21st at 7-over.

Play on Tuesday begins at 9 a.m.
