COMPLETE MEET RESULTS

PORTLAND
– A week before its only home meet, the Southern Oregon University track and field team enjoyed what was easily its most fruitful day of the season on Saturday at Lewis & Clark's Larry Byerly Invitational.

The biggest news was made at the end of the afternoon in the 5,000-meter races. On the men's side, senior Frankie Maciel and freshman Mason Weisgerber both qualified automatically for the NAIA Outdoor Championships – Maciel with a winning time of 14 minutes 23.27 seconds that ranks fifth on the national performance list, and Weisgerber with a runner-up time of 14:32.55 that ranks 10th. The marks put them at Nos. 4 and 7, respectively, on SOU's all-time list.

On the women's side, senior Alejandra Lopez, who was already an automatic national qualifier in the 10K, became a provisional qualifier in the 5K by winning in 17:36.30, the fourth-fastest time on SOU's all-time list and No. 12 among NAIA runners this season. Cammeo Ramirez was the runner-up in 17:48.55 for another NAIA top-20 mark, while Alyssa Johnson (17:55.12) and Haylee Brodahl (18:26.24) were the third- and fifth-place finishers.

Carson Le Bel tacked on another new NAIA provisional-qualifying mark by clearing 15 feet 7 ¾ inches in the pole vault for second place in an 18-person field. The sophomore now tops the Cascade Conference list and ranks sixth in the country.

The Raider men got more good work from senior All-American thrower Andrew Mitchell, who eclipsed the NAIA 'A' javelin standard for the fourth time in as many outings by placing second at 201-6. He also posted the CCC's second-best discus throw, going 154-0 for fifth place out of 53.

The Raider women added several season-best performances. Among them were, in the 800, third-place Sarah Mauk (2:19.13) and eighth-place Abi Stevens (2:20.50); in the 100 hurdles, ninth-place Sienna Bauer (15.79); in the pole vault, fourth-place Katherine Martinez (11-5); and in the hammer, fifth-place Ilyhia Greely (150-10).

Stevens was also second in the long jump (17-4), Bauer was third in the triple jump (35-8 ½), and India Ortinz was third in the 400 hurdles (1:06.03). For the men, Luke King was fourth of 39 in the shot put (48-8 ¼).

The Raider Invitational is set for next weekend. Friday's events start at 3 p.m. in the field and 6 p.m. on the track, and Saturday's start at 10 a.m. in the field and noon on the track.
