RAIDER INVITATIONAL (Ashland, Ore.)
3 p.m. Friday / 10 a.m. Saturday | MEET CENTRAL

ASHLAND – While two Raiders compete at the Cascade Conference Multi-Event Championships, the rest of the Southern Oregon University track and field team will be on display at its annual home meet Friday and Saturday in the Raider Invitational.

Junior heptathlete Abi Stevens, a nine-time All-American, and freshman decathlete Coleton Urquhart are SOU's representatives at the CCC Multis on Thursday and Friday in La Grande. Stevens – who placed fourth in the heptathlon at last year's NAIA Outdoor Championships and third in the pentathlon at this year's NAIA Indoor Championships – is aiming for her first conference title. She was the runner-up in 2023 to British Columbia's Rebecca Dutchak, who is also back at the meet. Dutchak currently owns the NAIA's top heptathlon score (5,029) while Stevens has yet to complete one this spring.

At Raider Stadium, Friday's events start at 3 p.m. in the field and 6 p.m. on the track, and Saturday's start at 10 a.m. in the field and noon on the track.

The Raiders are coming off their best outing of the year, last week's Lewis & Clark Larry Byerly Invite. There, they got NAIA automatic-qualifying times in the men's 5,000 meters from Frankie Maciel and Mason Weisgerber; a provisional-qualifying time in the women's 5K from Alejandra Lopez; and a provisional-qualifying mark in the pole vault from Carson Le Bel.

SOU's top distance runners will compete in Friday night's 1,500 races, including Lopez, who also has an NAIA 'A' time in the 10K. In the field, SOU record-holder Andrew Mitchell will work on his mark of 221 feet 7 inches that stands as the second-best on the national performance list on Saturday afternoon, while Le Bel – who currently tops the CCC list and is No. 7 in the NAIA – attempts to turn his 'B' standard pole-vault mark (15-7 ¾) into an 'A.'
