MEET CENTRAL

ASHLAND Ilyhia Greely, Frankie Maciel and Andrew Mitchell all delivered new NAIA Championships-qualifying marks for the Southern Oregon track and field team to open the Raider Invitational on a high note Friday at Raider Stadium.

Greely, a junior thrower in her first season at SOU, was a walk-off winner on her final attempts in the discus with a throw of 141 feet 7 inches, topping her previous season best by 13 feet. She hit the NAIA 'B' standard, took the lead on the Cascade Conference performance list and jumped to No. 21 on the national list. The mark put her at sixth all-time in the Raider record book.

Mitchell followed Greely with an automatic-qualifying throw in the men's discus, winning with a PR of 163-7. The senior All-American – who already had an 'A' in the javelin with the NAIA's second-best mark – went to No. 15 on the national discus performance list after beating his best throw of the season by nearly 10 feet.

Maciel, a week after becoming the fourth-fastest 5,000-meter runner in SOU history and reserving a spot at the national meet, came back with the team's fastest 1,500 in four years. His time of 3 minutes 52.62 seconds was a tenth of a second off the 'A' mark, but as a provisional qualifier he stands at No. 17 in the NAIA. The senior cleared the runner-up by over two seconds in a 51-person field.

The Raiders also got event victories in the women's 1,500 from Cammeo Ramirez (4:46.04), the women's 5K from Mercedes Harms (19:32.00) and the men's 5K from Jalen Griego (15:17.18). Sarah Mauk was four seconds back of Ramirez as the 1,500 runner-up with a CCC qualifier time, and two more Raider women took second place in their events: Katherine Martinez in the pole vault (10-11 ¾) and Sienna Bauer in the triple jump (35-5 ¼). Garrett Chaffee finished second of 37 in the men's 200 with a PR (22.26).

The meet resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. in the field and noon on the track.
