KLAMATH FALLS Andrew Mitchell pulled off a feat that hadn't been done in 23 years at the Cascade Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank, winning both the discus and javelin titles for Southern Oregon as the meet concluded Saturday at Moehl Stadium.

Mitchell, a senior All-American, was voted the Men's Field Athlete of the Meet and brought the Raiders' total to three event victories on the weekend after sophomore Carson Le Bel triumphed in Friday's pole vault. Senior Frankie Maciel delivered his second runner-up effort in the 5,000-meter race, and senior Luke King attained All-CCC status in the shot put for the second straight season by taking third.

The Raider women tacked on two more all-conference performances after posting three on Day 1: junior Abi Stevens claimed second place in the high jump for the third consecutive season, and India Ortiz logged a major PR in the 400-meter hurdles to take third place and hit the NAIA's provisional-qualifying standard for the first time.

SOU finished fifth in the women's and sixth in the men's team standings. Eastern Oregon captured both team championships.

Mitchell stole the show in the field ahead of his third appearance at the NAIA Outdoor Championships, where last year he was the national runner-up in the javelin. He started with the discus, where the sixth and final throw of his series – registering at 158 feet 11 inches – took him from third to first place, edging British Columbia's William Kizell by 1 ½ feet. There was no such drama later in the javelin as he broke 60 meters three times and no other thrower did it once. His winning mark stood at 210-6.

Only one other thrower in CCC history had won both titles at the same meet: SOU's Jeff Bentley, who did it in 2001.

Maciel clocked in at 15 minutes 26.87 seconds in the 5K and finished less than a second behind EOU's Hunter Nichols, just as in Friday's 1,500. He was the first Raider since 2016 to post back-to-back top-two finishes in the races, and freshman Mason Weisgerber (15:36.30) wasn't far behind in fourth.

King's showing in the shot put marked the end of his successful SOU career, a mark of 49-5 ½ on his second attempt ending up his best. Mitchell (44-2 ½) placed eighth in the event. The Raider men got their other points on the day from Le Bel, who was fifth in the high jump (4-6), and a 4x400 relay team that took seventh.

Stevens became an eight-time All-CCC honoree by clearing 5-6 at her second-place showing in the high jump. After placing third in both the long jump and heptathlon earlier in the meet, she is a lock to compete in the heptathlon and high jump on the national stage. She was also part of a 4x400 team – with Ortiz, Sarah Mauk and Gracie Freudenthal – that finished fourth in 4:01.08.

Ortiz's performance in the 400 hurdles was another highlight for SOU. A time of 1:03.90 made her one of four runners in the race to meet national-qualifying standards, putting her at No. 25 on the NAIA performance list. Her previous PR, established just two weeks ago, was 1:05.15.

Sienna Bauer contributed fourth-place points in the triple jump, going 36-2 ¾. The Raiders had a pair of 5K scorers in fifth-place Alejandra Lopez (18:08.35) and sixth-place Alyssa Johnson (18:10.02).

Final qualifiers for NAIA Outdoor Championships will be announced next week, and the meet is set for May 22-24 in Marion, Indiana.
