WEED, Calif. – The Southern Oregon men's golf team defeated Simpson (Calif.) 7-3 in the first annual North vs. South match play event, which took place Monday and Tuesday at Lake Shastina Golf Resort.

The Ryder Cup-style, head-to-head matchup saw three of five Raider pairs prevail on Day 1 and four of five win on Day 2. Two pairs from SOU – Ty Beyer and Ethan Miller, and Andrew Plankenhorn and Sam Havens – were victorious both days.

Miller posted the team's top stroke total, finishing 5-over across two rounds on the par-72 course. He shot 3-under over the final 18 holes. Beyer finished 7-over, and Riley Kirk carded a 2-under in the first round.

The Raider women also completed 36 holes and were led by 5-under Keira Cheng, who shot a career-best 67 in the first round. Mia Bontrager was 1-under and Haley Brown was 1-over.

SOU competes next at Oregon Tech's Run-in at the Ranch, set for Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at Running Y Ranch Resort.
