Cheng, Reisner pace SOU in 1st spring tourney

SUNLAND, Calif. – The Southern Oregon University golf teams made their spring debuts Tuesday and Wednesday at Providence Christian's Sea Beggar Invitational, where Keira Cheng led the Raider women to second place and Ricky Reisner pushed the men to third.

Over two rounds, Cheng shot 20-over at the par-72 Angeles National Golf Club to take third on a 20-person leaderboard. She improved her score by six strokes in Round 2 with a 79. The Raiders filled the seven-through-10 spot on the leaderboard with Mia Bontrager (+28), Haley Brown (+33), Mya Oakes (+35) and Abby Francis (+38).

Reisner was sixth at 7-over and shot even par in Round 1. Oliver Ausland carded SOU's best Round 2 score with a 74, ultimately tying for 14th place at 12-over. He was one stroke ahead of teammate Riley Kirk (+13), who finished one stroke up on Ty Beyer (+14). Mason Labow (+19) tied for 26th on the 40-person men's leaderboard.

Hope International (Calif.) produced both medalists: Serena Singh (+11) on the women's side and Troy Schulz (+3) on the men's side.

The Raiders hadn't been in action since the first week of November. They compete next in the men's-only Bandon Match Play tournament March 9-11 in Bandon.
