ASHLAND – Cascade Conference heptathlon champion
Abi Stevens and softball players
Ayla Davies and
Hailey Seva were voted CCC Athletes of the Week on Monday, the league office announced.
Stevens led from start to finish at the CCC Multi-Event Championships last week in Klamath Falls, registering 4,995 points to capture her first conference heptathlon title. Her score – the second-highest of her career, behind only the 5,205 she posted for runner-up honors at last year's NAIA Outdoor Championships – stands as the best in the country this season. The 13-time All-American had the top marks in five of seven disciplines.
Davies was named the CCC Pitcher of the Week for the sixth time in her debut season after earning every decision in top-ranked Southern Oregon's four-game sweep of No. 23 College of Idaho. The freshman twirled two complete games – a six-inning, one-hit shutout and a seven-inning gem in which she took a no-hitter into the fifth – and had two scoreless relief stints. Over 19 innings, she compiled 25 strikeouts, issued one walk, and allowed six hits and two runs. She stands at 26-2 with a 0.80 ERA and has six more wins than any other pitcher in the NAIA.
Seva, a senior outfielder/first baseman, starred at the plate against the Yotes to garner the CCC Player of the Week nod. She went 5-for-6, reached base in seven of eight plate appearances, and logged five RBIs and five runs scored. She also hit a tiebreaking two-run home run late in Game 2 of the series and added a pair of doubles, raising her batting average to .333.
The Raiders (42-4 overall, 22-2 CCC) play their final series of the regular season this weekend in La Grande, needing one win to clinch at least a share of the CCC championship and two to guarantee it outright.
