PORTLAND – Riley Kirk ended the first of three rounds at the Cascade Conference Championship presented by U.S. Bank on top of the men's leaderboard for Southern Oregon on Monday at Glendoveer Golf Course.

Kirk – a freshman from Kelso, Wash., who has already notched a pair of top-10 CCC finishes and owns the circuit's seventh-best scoring average – is clinging to a one-stroke lead after shooting 2-under on the par-73 course. He was sitting at 4-under before recording his first bogies on the last two holes.

Kirk and the Raider men are tied with Oregon Tech for fourth place at 10-over, eight strokes behind leader British Columbia. Ty Beyer (+2) is tied for 14th and Oliver Ausland (+13) is tied for 18th individually.

Top-ranked UBC also has the lead on the women's side at 10-over, while SOU ended the first round in fifth place at 42-over.

SOU's four scorers on the day – Mia Bontrager (+9), Keira Cheng (+10), Mya Oakes (+11) and Abby Francis (+12) – were separated by three strokes. Bontrager is tied for 16th place. UBC's Elizabeth Labbe carded the low women's round with a 73.

Tuesday's second round is set for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
