EAGLE POINT – The Southern Oregon University golf teams got off to a hot start Monday in the SOU Spring Classic at Stone Ridge Golf Club.

In the third of four Cascade Conference-counting tournaments, the Raider men had arguably their best day ever in the circuit at 5-under through two of three rounds – landing just seven strokes behind first-place Lewis-Clark State and two behind No. 6-ranked British Columbia through two of three rounds.

Five Raiders are among the top-10 on the individual leaderboard after shooting even-par or better, led by 2-under Mason Labow in a tie for fifth. Riley Kirk and Ryder Jacox are just one stroke behind him.

The Raider women are also third in the team standing through the first of their two rounds. Seventh-place Keira Cheng shot 4-over, Mia Bontrager shot 8-over and stands in a tie for 12th place, and Haley Brown is tied for 18th at 11-over.

The final rounds are set for a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
