ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon men's basketball team and freshman sprinter
Lilly Pickett picked up Cascade Conference weekly awards on Monday, the CCC office announced.
The Raider men were named the CCC Under Armour Team of the Week following comeback wins over No. 21-ranked Oregon Tech and Warner Pacific. Last Tuesday against OIT, they trailed by six with four minutes left and won 68-67 on
Gio Evanson's go-ahead 3-pointer with 12 seconds left and two blocked shots on their final defensive stand. They were down seven on Thursday at WPU before closing on a 17-4 run over the final four minutes to escape with a 67-61 victory.
The Raiders (11-7 overall, 8-2 CCC) are locked in a four-way tie for first place entering the second half of the CCC schedule. They've overcome double-digit deficits in four of their last five conference wins.
Pickett was voted the CCC McDonald's Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, presented by Urban Edge Network. She continued a blazing start to her collegiate career over the weekend at the Nevada Invitational, where she became an automatic qualifier in the 400 meters for the NAIA Indoor Championships. Her time of 56.05 seconds was good for fifth place out of 38 in an NCAA Division I-dominated race and, adjusted to 56.16 for altitude, put her at No. 6 on the national performance list.
A product of Turner's Cascade High – where she was a two-time state 400-meter champion at the OSAA Class 4A level – Pickett also owns an auto-qualifying time in the 600 meters of 1:32.65 that ranks second in the NAIA. She recorded that mark in her collegiate debut Dec. 4 at Nevada's Silver State Invitational.
