LEWISTON, Idaho – The Southern Oregon men's golf team experienced a dramatic turnaround from the first round to the second and ended Day 1 of the Warrior Fall Invitational in sixth place on Monday at the Lewiston Country Club.

Entering Tuesday's final round, the Raider men are 35-over par after combining to shoot 3-over during their second trip around the course – a 29-stroke improvement over their first that marked their best single-round score ever in a Cascade Conference event and bumped them a couple spots in the standings. Only first-place Lewis-Clark State (-1) had a better second-round stroke total.

SOU was in seventh place out of eight teams at 62-over through one of two rounds on the women's side.

Out of 56 golfers on the men's leaderboard, Ryder Jacox (+5) leads the Raiders in a tie for second place. He carded an even-par 72 in the second round while three other Raiders turned in 73s: Ty Beyer (+9, 28th), Connor Calahan (+10, 32nd) and Xanh Quang (+11, 40th).

For the women, Mia Bontrager (+7) is tied for 14th place out of 47, Abby Francis (+11) is tied for 29th, and Mya Oakes (+16) is tied for 39th.

The tournament is the second of four CCC counters on the schedule. In the first last month, the Raider men finished sixth and the women were seventh.

The final rounds begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
